Tree Top Selects Winner of America’s Best Firehouse BBQ Cook-Off

final-voting-screen-shot3It was a long and smoky road, but LANE PR and Tree Top’s nationwide search for the best, most mouth-watering BBQ recipe has come to an end.

America’s Best Firehouse BBQ Cook-Off launched in April with the makers of 100 percent apple juice and applesauce asking firehouses across the country to put their grilling skills to the test and use Tree Top products to produce the best original BBQ recipe. From the tangy and sweet to the rich and savory, it was a challenge to narrow down the recipes to just 10 finalists – but, alas, it had to be done.

Finalists were sent a Sony Bloggie video camera to capture their unique firehouse personality and share their recipe with the world. Voters nationwide were allowed to select their favorite firehouse video and vote up to once a day, and we are proud to announce the two winners of this all-American contest:

    • Spokane Fire Station #13 - $10,000 Grand Prize winner
    • Yakima County Fire District 6 - $1,000 People’s Choice award (most online votes)

LANE PR garnered some impressive traditional and social media results with this fun and fiery campaign, and engaged BBQ enthusiasts nationwide via the online voting platform, making this food and beverage client one hot topic.

    Fancy Food Trends

This July, I attended the Fancy Food Show on behalf of LANE PR.  The Fancy Food Show, organized by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, is the country’s largest specialty food and beverage marketplace expo.  For the first time in the show’s history, it was held in Washington DC—attracting attention to DC as a foodie destination, and bringing a new spotlight to the importance of food in America’s culture.

Besides sampling new food and beverages (tough job!) and meeting some of the nation’s and the world’s most interesting and innovative purveyors, I was able to spot some of the hottest trends in the food and beverage industry today.

Hands Holding TrufflesTwo trends I spotted from exhibitors across the board?  Gluten-free.  Gluten-free snacks, meals, and drinks were everywhere—and many attendees were even asking specifically for gluten-free goodies.  On the high-brow trend side, truffle also seemed to be one of the “hot” ingredients of the year.  Besides the traditional truffle salts and oils, truffles even popped up in jams and on popcorn.  Not the most original trend we’ve ever seen—but one that I’ll certainly be enjoying nonetheless.

    Cheers!

    A Little Friday PR Humor

As PR professionals, we often forget that our everyday tasks and excitements might seem a bit odd to others not in the industry.   PR Daily recently published a list written by David Brimm of BrimmComm Inc., of some funny signs that you work in the PR industry (click here).

I’ve supplemented his list of ten with a few of my own.

#11: Your new BFF is your contact at Cision.
#12: Your friends often refer to you as the one who “does advertising.”
#13: (closely tied to #12): You often get asked, “What exactly is it that you do?”
