NYC Chefs Cook-Off for a Cause

_dsc1344rOn Monday, September 19th in New York City, LANE PR hosted the Allegrini Palazzo della Torre Wine’s “Cook-off for a Cause.”  The event, which had been successfully executed the prior week in Denver and Seattle, invited media plus food and beverage trade attendees to NYC’s Lincoln Restaurant to sample Allegrini’s wines paired with original dishes.

_dsc1290rThe competing chefs were Scott Anderson of elements Restaurant, Jonathon Benno of Lincoln, and Alex Pilas of Eataly.  After a very (very!) close race, the audience and judging panel scored Jonathon Benno’s dish the best to pair with Allegrini Palazzo della Torre.  However, all the chefs were winners because, besides creating exquisite dishes, each walked home with a donation to a charity of their choice. Salud!

    Laners Go Devo

photoThis past weekend, my colleague Jeff Segvich and I headed to Woodinville, Wash., to celebrate Redhook’s 30th birthday in 80’s style. Hosted on the brewery’s beautiful grounds, the event featured Redhook’s new Extra Special Birthday Beer and drew thousands of hardcore eighties music and beer fans.

The musical lineup included Mitten, Tom, Tom Club, The Psychedelic Furs, and Devo (Photo: Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo with Jeff and I after the event). Despite torrential rain for the last act, the crowd sported their best neon and energy domes and the bands performed as though we never left 1981.

    By Casey Dowd

Many boomers are embracing this new technology, and some of us are even becoming early adopters.

Some reports show baby boomers will have an estimated $4.6 trillion in buying power by 2015, which could shakeup the smartphone market.

Boomer David Haverly has had a smartphone for nearly a month and loves it. “I am still playing with it, but I am getting used to using everything on it.” He even plans to disconnect his home phone once completely comfortable with his device.

I recently chatted with John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular, a nationwide provider of cell phones and services, about the boomer generation’s increased interest in cell and smartphone technology. Here’s what he had to say:
