Fifty Shades of Gin at the Heathman Hotel

Just about everyone has heard about the New York Times best selling trilogy,  Fifty Shades of Grey  by E. L. James, but did you know a few scenes from the book take place at The Heathman Hotel in Portland? Not only is the Heathman Hotel located in our backyard, but they’ve been our client for more than 10 years. To celebrate their 50 Shades of Grey success, Brian Hilby, The Heathman Restaurant bartender, created the 50 Shades of Gin cocktail. Inspired by the book, it is the perfect blend of botanicals and spirits that will knock your socks off!

Here’s the recipe for the 50 Shades of Gin cocktail…

50 Shades of Gin

1 oz Nolet’s Gin

3/4 oz rhubarb puree*

3/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice

1/2 oz simple syrup

Cranberry bitters

Lime wheel garnish

In a shaker, combine rhubarb puree (ours created by the Heathman Restaurant pastry chef – John Gayer), lime juice, simple syrup and Nolet’s gin. Add ice and shake well. Rinse a martini glass with cranberry bitters. Strain cocktail into glass, and top with sparkling wine, either Cava or Prosecco. Garnish with lime wheel or twist.

*If you can’t find rhubarb puree, purchase fresh rhubarb at your local grocer or pick from your garden and add to the blender with 1/2 oz simple syrup.
