Pacific Seafood Group has just completed more than $2 million in upgrades to its Newport shrimp processing plant that could help the company crack shrimp-hungry European markets.

The privately held Clackamas-based seafood purveyor, which has an estimated $1 billion in annual sales, hopes to learn next spring whether the investment will make the Newport plant the first on the West Coast to receive a coveted food safety certification from the British Retail Consortium.
