Did you know that March was Music in Our Schools Month? A call to action for all of us to help ensure music stays part of our child’s education. In honor of this month, Music & Arts launched a two-week nationwide Facebook sweepstakes challenging musicians everywhere to make a Pledge to Practice. The collaborative goal was for all musicians who pledge to practice to reach 100,000 minutes by March 31.

This past February, I was fortunate to attend Travel Portland’s Social Media & Web Marketing conference, gaining insight into the science of social media marketing and how the ever-evolving landscape of the digital realm is forcing many companies to sink or swim.
The conference hosted a smorgasbord of social media veterans, including Don Bourrasa (Yelp), Todd Skelton (Trip Advisor), Sylvie Dale (Advance Digital) and Jim Bridges (OregonLive).
One crucial takeaway I had from the conference was a little term called Content Marketing Optimization. CMO (content marketing optimization) is the idea that nearly all Internet searches are executed for the sole purpose of finding the best content available on the Web. Therefore, search engines will post the best and most valued content towards the top of Internet searches.

Searchfest 2013 has drawn a sold-out crowd in Portland today. Top practitioners from across the U.S. are gathering to share best practices about digital marketing with novices and experts alike. Portland-based SEMpdx is the host of the annual event.
The popularity of the once “geek” event has been rising over the past few years, as was captured by Allan Brettman of The Oregonian today. It is truly a broad-reaching event.
