Searchfest 2013 has drawn a sold-out crowd in Portland today. Top practitioners from across the U.S. are gathering to share best practices about digital marketing with novices and experts alike. Portland-based SEMpdx is the host of the annual event.

The popularity of the once “geek” event has been rising over the past few years, as was captured by Allan Brettman of The Oregonian today. It is truly a broad-reaching event.

The big picture of search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) is that brands need to be found on the Internet. Mostly, that happens when someone seeking information about a business or an industry types a search term or brand name into Google or Bing.
